RANDAL'S STORY

OWNER/HEAD INSTRUCTOR
GI & NOGI COACH

✓ 1st Degree Black Belt under Rodrigo Munduruca
✓ 15 years BJJ experience
✓ Certified Self-Defense and Instructor by Master Royler Gracie (Gracie Humaita)
✓ 20+ years of martial art experience (Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Kempo, BJJ)

I started training in 2008 on the invite from a friend to come try jiu-jitsu when I was working in Regina.  But it wasn’t until my first trip to Brazil in 2009 that I fell in love with it. It was there I first met Infight’s Rogerio Poggio and Eduardo Cadena, now 5th and 4th degree black belts whom I am still friends with today.

When I moved back to Winnipeg in 2010, I began to train under my professor Rodrigo Munduruca.  While training with him, I joined him in Brazil again in 2011.  As part of Gracie Humaita Winnipeg I had the opportunity to travel and train with many of the greats: Royler Gracie, Royce Gracie, Rolker Gracie, Rickson Gracie, and I even went to Barcelona to visit Robin Gracie (5 of Helio Gracie’s sons)

I continued to travel to some of the best academies around the world over the coming years. Learning from great instructors such as John Danaher, Gordon Ryan, Leticia Ribeiro, Jeff Glover, Baret Yoshida, Eduardo Telles, Alfredo Barum, Romulo Barral, Henry Akins, and more…   It’s from these travels and visits that I bring back my modern jiu-jitsu philosophy and concepts to Socius BJJ

“I truly believe in hard work, dedication, and self-discipline.”

COACH MIKE

GI & NOGI COACH
COMPETITION TEAM LEAD

✓ Brown Belt under Rodrigo Munduruca and Randal Boiteau
✓ 10+ years BJJ experience
✓ IBJJF Certified Brown Belt
✓ North American Grappling Association Champion (NAGA)
✓ 3x Manitoba Open Champion

I began my training in Jiu-Jitsu at Gracie Humaita Winnipeg in the summer of 2013, under Professor Rodrigo Munduruca. I quickly fell in love with the Martial Art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and the sport of submission grappling.

At white belt, I discovered the importance of competition for both skill development and progression. As an avid competitor, I encourage everyone who starts Jiu-Jiujitsu to try competing.

When training, I emphasize the importance of utilizing all techniques, including both upper and lower body submissions, training equally in both Gi and No Gi grappling, and incorporating standing takedowns in live sparring as frequently as possible.

Today, I proudly represent Socius BJJ at competitions across Canada and the United States. My goal everyday when I step on the mats is to help grow the recognition of the sport of submission grappling and support the acquisition of knowledge through teaching new students and cross training with student from different academies across the country.
